Who We Are
Rye Conservation Society exists to safeguard our historic town and to
preserve its special and distinctive character. Living or working
in a Conservation Area of national significance, places responsibility
on all of us - residents and businesses alike. Modern life and
environmental pressures require change; our challenge is to ensure this
takes place sympathetically, in keeping with our rich architectural
heritage.
Your feedback is welcome. If you have any suggestions for the
site, or you notice any corrections which need to be made please
email us with your comments.
Our Aims
|
To provide information and advice on the maintenance and
repair of listed and non listed buildings
To provide a focus on issues
impacting on the local environment
To raise awareness of green and environmental issues in a
historic town
|
The Shapes and Materials of Rye
Medieval buildings mix with Georgian houses, Victorian buildings, Dutch
gabled properties and historic churches. The blend of
architectural styles is what makes Rye a unique place. See
Gallery for examples and information about the
different shapes and materials of Rye.
Townscape Awards
The Society looks for examples of good conservation and good modern
design in the town and recognises them by giving those responsible a
Townscape Award. Last year (2010) the Award went to Rye Art
Gallery. See Awards
