Society responds to Rye Parking Consultation
East Sussex have been holding an informal consultation about the introduction of a new parking scheme for Rye. This included a two day exhibition in the Rye Town Hall which showed which parts of Rye would be affected by the proposals and included a real live parking machine which seemed very large in the confined space of the Town Hall.

The Society has generally supported the introduction of a civic parking scheme with traffic wardens, but is aware that there were many dissenting views at the consultation with worries about residents having fewer parking options than at present, the size of the proposed machines and the area of the parking zones amongst other things. The overall problem of ever increasing demand for parking and limited space is not going to disappear and the current free for all is unsatisfactory, damages pavements and is even dangerous.
At a members meeting to be held on 28 February to discuss amendments to the RCS Constitution we propose a second agenda item to discuss current Rye parking problems and possible changes. Further details shortly.
